Bill Greenhead's
Cartoonist & Animator Bill Greenhead tells us how he loves to use his artistic talents to problem solve and
engage an audience.
Vicky: What have been the professional highlights of your year so far? Bill: I'm working on a new animated TV series with Fat City Films. Storyboarding, writing and character designing. Also I have a range of Top Trump cards coming out before Christmas, which I have designed for Big Brother producer Shed Simove. Vicky: What drew you to illustration/design? Bill: I was working in animation drawing other peoples styles. There was a illustrator who freelanced for the studio I was working for. I wanted more artistic freedom, and I thought if she can do it, I blooming well can. Vicky: How do you get your ideas? Bill: I'm good at problem solving. Give me a brief and I'll work out angles to make it work. The best cartoonists are riddle solvers. Vicky: Do you collect anything? Bill: Money. Not very good at it. Vicky: Do you keep a scrapbook? Bill: Nope. I had a scrapbook when I was seven focusing on the great Kevin Keegan. Badly cut out pictures of him hitting Billy Bremner in the 1974 Charity Shield. Those scissors hurt my small fingers.

Vicky: Tell us about a favourite project you’ve recently completed. Bill: I did the Festival Guide. Lots of Cows and sheep to draw, plus some caricatures of music legends. Great fun. Vicky: What would be your dream job/commission? Bill: One where I create characters and can write jokes/situations for them. I love engaging an audience. Vicky: Who is/are your illustration hero/es? Bill: Tex Avery, Chuck Jones, Wallace Wood, Bill Elder, Gary Larson and Jack Kirby, that's all I can think of, but there are many more. Vicky: How do you think a friend, or professor who knows you well would describe you? Bill: Unwilling to commit to a personallity. Vicky: What is the funniest thing you have ever done? Bill: Working on the Big Breakfast, doing live TV trying to draw caricatures of people waiting in their cars at the traffic lights. I had 10 seconds tops to get something down before me and Keith Chegwin got ran over. He's a lovely fella btw. Vicky: What is your favourite game, computer or not? Bill: I'm playing Battlefield Heroes online at the moment. Gears of War 2's pretty darn fruity.
