Laura Dollie knew at the age of seven that she wanted to be an artist. As a child, taught herself to draw by studying characters from classic Disney movies, and Normal Rockwell. Later, she earned her BFA degree in illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design. As a professional illustrator, she enjoys the variety of the work, creative challenges, and bringing stories and concepts to life. In her world, peacocks drink martinis, pelicans serve at the bar, and roosters can play piano.
Laura has Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Laura likes the flexibility of applying and tweaking colours digitally, but for her the organic feel of the hand drawn image is king. Hence, she does most of her preliminary work by hand – drawing and shading her image, before moving on to the digital stage.
Laura is able to work in two styles. One is soft, expressive and colourful. It looks like watercolour, but isn’t. Shading and a sense of texture, as well as a hint of the surreal, bring it to life. Her other approach is to use vector graphics – clean, cute and quick.
