With work that’s colourful, slightly naïve and full of charm, the Barcelona-based artist Iratxe Lopez de Munain launched her creative career by writing and illustrating her own children’s book in 2010. Today she works for a variety of publishing houses and agencies – illustration is her passion, and it’s a way of life.
It seems she was destined to create these vibrant artworks. Her mother was a painter and Iratxe was always stealing her coloured pencils and working on her own drawings. Her favourite topic at the time was animals, but today she’ll draw just about anything and will make it eye-catching.
Like so many other illustrators, Iratxe is inspired by visual things. She loves the cinema, including directors like Paolo Sorrentino and Percy Adlon, particularly their exciting use of colour. She’s also influenced by artists like Henri Rousseau, the French modern artist Balthus, and the Naïve art movement.
