Decorative Portrait Of Leila Slimani

Millennials

FT Weekend commission Vanessa Dell for a decorative portrait of Leila Slimani as part of their Millennials feature.

The portrait of writer Leila Slimani appeared in the Life & Arts section of the newspaper for a piece interviewing Millennial adults on their creative careers. Slimani was interviewed at the Marco Polo restaurant in Paris for the 'Light Lunch with...' section, Vanessa explains, " The Art Director wanted me to capture the feel of the restaurant in the background art, using the colours and furniture as a way to link Slimani to the interior. I made a tile pattern using the light shades, chair rims and general decor as a backdrop to the portrait, making the final piece look fairly exotic and capturing her Moroccan roots".
