You can almost feel Alex Cabal’s love of drawing in each of her illustrations. Oozing with personality and colour, her images capture beauty in a fun, contemporary and almost cartoonish way. The artist can never resist adding a flower or two for a natural flourish.
Her style has a natural feel to it and although Alex likes drawing women of colour most, her projects include people of all races, backgrounds and genders. “I want everyone to see themselves in my work and feel beautiful,” she explains.
Born and raised in Los Angeles with a Filipino heritage, Alex got hooked on art through cartoons, animé, comics, video games and fashion. She’s heavily inspired by women street artists like Fafi, Miss Van and Koralie, as well as by the comic artist and illustrator James Jean. Strong female characters are another influence, from Chun-Li in Streetfighter through to Wednesday Addams.
Alex is an experienced freelancer who knows the industry ropes from the client side too. While working as a key artist for an advertising agency she was part of a team that bagged a number of awards including a Clio.
