Andre Bergamin - Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil based illustrator

Born in the Brazilian city of Porto Alegre, André Bergamin still lives in the south of country. He loves the local music, and paintings have always been an inspiration. After working in advertising, today he creates slightly surreal montage illustrations that are splashed with colour, texture and, sometimes, obscure references.
Training André studied advertising at both degree and postgraduate levels, but his illustration skills are entirely self-taught. While working as a freelance art director in 2008 he began to get an increasing number of illustration commissions. He decided to turn this into his career and hasn’t looked back. Approach An eclectic range of artists have influenced André’s work including Max Ernst, Magritte, Cicero Dias and Alfredo Volpi. His interest lies in creating new images from old and overlooked ones, kidnapping objects and putting them into an entirely new context. Style André plays with juxtaposition and context in fascinating ways. There are layered meanings in his montages, which draw together dark concepts, striking colours and violent sense of movement.
